Breaking In The New Camera

After the last wedding I taped, I decided to upgrade and buy a Sony HDV 1080i Mini DV camera. I absolutely love it...don't love making the payments on it, but I love it regardless.

My friend Darbi ( of Darbi G. Photography), once again, referred me to an awesome couple (Stephanie and Brad) who was getting married a week before Christmas 2007. They decided to book me and I was really excited to use my new camera for their wedding...I wasn't so excited about the predicted weather conditions for their big day, snow...and lots of it. But that's okay. I wrapped my new camera in garbage bags (classy, huh...but it worked) and captured some of the most brilliant video for the bride and groom on their wedding day.

This video was also my first chance to work with a wide screen format, as my last camera did not allow me to do that. Because I add photos and graphics throughout the video, this was definitely a learning experience for me because of the format change. After talking with the groom and finding out how much he and the bride loved the video, I knew I had made the right decision in buying the camera and adding more options for future clients.

I Got The Job

The Engagement Photography Session Video Couple (that's a mouthful) decided to hire me as their wedding videographer. Needless to say I was very excited to be a part of their big day as well as add to my growing portfolio.

After their wedding, I decided I definitely needed to upgrade my video camera if I was going to pursue my part time business.

The couple (Nealie and Johnathan) actually came to my house to pick up their photos (by Darbi G. Photography) and their wedding highlight video. I was extremely nervous as we all watched my first wedding highlight compilation but they said they loved it — which made me happy.

To Hire, Or Not To Hire...That Was The Question

I had so much fun with the "Trash The Dress" session that I decided I wanted to do more. I had an option to videotape my friend Darbi's client's engagement photography session pro bono. I considered this my time to impress these clients (Nealie and Johnathan) because if they liked their engagement highlight video, they might hire me to tape their wedding.

The couple had their engagement photography session at Shelter Gardens in Columbia, Mo. The day was gorgeous and the flowers were in full bloom. Even the hot air balloons were out and about that day.

Once again I used my Canon Optura 20 Mini DV camera. After this taping experience, I knew I was going to change my hobby into a part-time business.

Trash The Dress Video

Trash The Dress Photography sessions are being extremely popular. So when my good friend Darbi asked if I wanted to go along with her and her assistant Paige to take pictures of her good friend Tisha "trashing her dress," I jumped at the chance.

We went to several locations around Columbia, Mo: a junkyard, an alley, a tunnel on the Mizzou campus, a construction site, railroad tracks, and Steak N' Shake...a girl has to eat (plus those were some of my favorite pictures from the day).

This was the first video I attempted to edit together artisticly while including the fabulous photos taken by Miss Darbi Gibson of Darbi G. Photography. Prepare to see many more pictures in my videos from this very good photog. This video also uses a song from a Columbia band called Confident Years (the singer is the hubby of the bride in the video).

I used my Canon Optura 20 Mini DV camera that my parents bought for me while I was in college...it's not the camera, it's how you use it. It was insanely hot the day we taped (July 2007), but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I never thought I would "trash" my wedding dress, but after seeing how great Tisha's photos came out, I'm totally on board.

Enjoy the video.

A Blog Is Born

Because I don't want to create/maintain a Web site, I figure this would be a place where I can direct people to view and read about how I like to spend my free time, videotaping and editing artistic videos.

Stay tuned for examples that I will post here at a later date.
